This outstanding hiking country, but travel light because the trails are often muddy and slippery. You have to climb over stiles, may be cross rivers by dugout canoe or log raft, and traverse creeks or trenches on quaint foot bridges or a single rough plank or slippery log. Go for longer treks around the Baliem Valley staying in villages or camping as you go, depending on the remoteness of the area.
ADVENTURE IN THE LOWLAND
This region, and inconceivably huge area or mangroves, pandanus and rivers with huge tides, remains undeveloped and one of the few truly unexplored regions left in the world.
