Yapen Regency

Yapen Waropen is one of the regencies in Papua Province which us truly considered as a great prospective are by possessing a high value of natural resources in all parts of its territory.
Yapen Waropen Regency consist of two main territories namely the island of Yapen and the mainland of Waropen which its teritorial acreage of : 18.998 Square Kilometers streching from 01 degree 27 second to 02 degree 50 second South Latitude and from 135 degree 33 second minutes east longitude.

The regency of Biak Numfor on the North
The regency of Paniai on the South
The regency of Jayapura on the East
The regency of Manokwari of the West.

Based on the administrative territory, Yapen Waropen regency is devided into 8 subdistrict, 165 villges and 6 government under subdeistrict. The capital city of Yapen Waropen is Serui where sites in Yapen Selatan subdistrict

It has been estimated that until the year of 2002 the population of Yapen Waropen regency amounts to 87.797 people with the density of 4,65 Km2. The highest population can be fount in Yapen Selatan subdistrict that amounts to 24.290 people and the rest spread in other subdistrict. In addition there are still several ethnics of Nomad that inhabit the territory of Waropen Atas, Waropen Tengah (Masirei) and Waropen Bawah. The native inhabitant consists of Yapen people and Waropen people added by other comers from different regencies in Papua Province and another Provincies in Indonesia.
Yapen Island south of Biak is one massive mountain rainforest with its highest peak at 1430m. Serui is the largest town on the south side of Yapen . Serui has a small airport and can be reached in 20 minutes by plane from Biak. The northern area of Yapen can be reached in 4 hours by boat from Biak. The north side's jungle has many attractions for bird watchers as lesser bird of paradise, crown pigeons, palm cockatoos, parrots and hornbills. All around Yapen you find stunning coral reefs for superb snorkeling.
